On the six things I insisted on when we made our knitted cardigans, why one of them changes an outfit you already own more than a whole new outfit does, and why they are clearing as we close the shop.
I am June, and my partner Dorothy and I started this little Charleston shop 22 years ago, a few streets back from the harbour. In all that time I have stood in the fitting room with a great many women, and I noticed something so obvious that it took me years to see it.
Nobody has ever been stopped in a grocery car park over her trousers. Not once. It is always the thing on top. The cardigan, the wrap, the layer. That is the piece the eye lands on, and it is the piece a woman gets remembered in.

I wanted a knit soft enough that you keep it on through all of it rather than carrying it over your arm, and warm enough that you are not the woman quietly freezing at the good table.
"I put it on in the morning and it stays on. I stopped carrying a wrap in my handbag entirely."

Tansy, Greta, Ivadelle, Helena, Briarwood, Sabrina and the rest. Each one its own print and its own colour family, because the whole point of a top layer is that a second one gives you a second wardrobe out of the same clothes underneath. Several of them are already down to the last sizes.
